The 66th Annual Meeting will begin with a series of fringe events over three days. On Monday 18th July there will be two public engagement events - a “Family Fossil Expo” in the afternoon and a Royal Irish Academy Discourse Lecture delivered by Prof. Larisa de Santis (Vanderbilt University) in the evening. Both events are open to meeting delegates and are free. On Tuesday 19th July there will be a full-day “Career Links” workshop targeted to early career researchers; this event is also free. If attending this event, please indicate a total of three keywords to describe your field of research and/or research approaches in the "Specify other requirements" box below. On the morning of Wednesday 20th July there will be workshops and laboratory tours; these are free but will run concurrently.
As such, please select just one workshop or laboratory tour below.
If you wish to attend a workshop but at time of registration no places are left, please contact the meeting organiser (Prof. Maria McNamara; annualmeeting2022@palass.org). If there is sufficient interest, the meeting organisers will make arrangements to use a venue with larger capacity. The workshop “First steps into statistical analysis” will be run by specialists from Transmitting Science; the workshops “Public Engagement” and “Getting Funding” will be run by experts from UCC and the Irish Centre for Research in Applied Geosciences; and the workshop "Bias, Discrimination and Decolonising Palaeontology" will be run by Palaeontologists against Systematic Racism.
These events will be followed by the symposium on "Chemical Fossils" in the afternoon and then the evening icebreaker, both of which are also free. The core scientific sessions will take place on Thursday the 21st and Friday the 22nd July. The Annual Dinner will cost €75. It will be held in Pairc Uí Chaoimh, a state of the art stadium with a capacity of 45,000 people and the home of Ireland’s national sports hurling and gaelic football in Cork. Delegates will be treated to a live match on the all weather pitch followed by dinner and a céilí (music and dancing). The dinner is subsidized thanks to the generosity of our sponsors; coach transport will be provided. The two-day post-conference fieldtrip will cost €185 for early career researchers and €260 for ordinary and retired members; these costs cover two lunches, one dinner, accommodation and breakfast, transport, and admission to Doolin Cave and the Cliffs of Moher centre. The number of participants will be limited to 30, including the field trip leader.
