Website Hosting

The Palaeontological Association provides a website hosting service on its servers for palaeontological resources,  societies, and associations that fall within our charitable aims.

How to Apply for Hosting

To apply for hosting space on the server run by The Palaeontological Association please complete the following application form (download link below) and return by email to the Executive (executive@palass.org) and Internet (webmaster@palass.org) Officers.

Server Update Notice

We are currently in the process of setting up and commissioning a new server cluster hosted on AWS. This will mean that by June 2018 all currently hosted website will need to be moved to the new system. We will be contacting individual website managers over the next couple of months to arrange this.

Our Server

We are currently running the following dedicated server for website hosting:

    Linux - CentOS 6.x
  • CPU: E3-1230 Quad Core Intel Xeon (3.30GHz)
  • RAM : 8 GB DDR3
  • Hard Disk : 2 x 600 GB SAS 15k RPM
  • RAID Controller : RAID 1
  • Control Panel : 

    Plesk 12.x with Web Presence Licence (100 Domains)
  • Bandwidth : 10000 GB
  • IP Addresses : 5 Dedicated IPs
  • Backup: R1Soft CDP Backup
  • Backup Space : 600 GB
  • Hardware Firewall : Cisco ASA 5505

The server has the following software installed:

  • Apache Server, with:
    • PHP 5.3.3 (we regually update the latest stable version),
    • FTP
    • SSH (on request)
    • SLL Support (on request)

  • MySQL Database Server
  • Email Server (Horde/AtMail), with:
    • Webmail

    • Mail Groups (on request)
