Overview

The 61st Annual Meeting of the Palaeontological Association is being held in London at Imperial College from the 17th–19th December 2017, with fieldtrips on the 20th December. The meeting will be hosted by the Department of Earth Science & Engineering, and will take place in the Royal School of Mines (RSM) and Sir Alexander Flemming (SAF) buildings. Imperial is one of the world’s top Universities, well supplied with both modern facilities and Victorian architecture, all in a small and easily navigated campus in the heart of London. The venue is next door to the gothic glories and outstanding palaeontological collections of the Natural History Museum (see note below) and a stone’s throw from other famous cultural landmarks as well - the Albert Hall, Hyde Park, The Science Museum, etc.

Note on visting the Natural History Museum collections: The meeting will take place adjacent to London’s Natural History Museum, and we are aware that delegates may see this as an opportunity to visit the Museum collections. Please be aware that the museum curators expect to be very busy in this period, and will not be able to grant ad-hoc access to collections during the meeting. Requests for access should be made four weeks in advance to the relevant curator (http://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/departments-and-staff/staff-directory.html), and will be granted on a first-come first-served basis.

Code of Conduct: we ask that all delegates familiarise themselves with the Palaeontological Association’s Code of Conduct for the meeting.

Full details will appear here over the coming months. These will include travel advice, registration costs and deadlines, and full details of the academic programme. In the meantime, please contact us at annualmeeting2017@palass.org with any queries.

For now, an outline programme and accommodation suggestions are provided.

We look forward to welcoming you to London

Mark Sutton (primary convener)
